Identity theft is rising at an alarming rate. According to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), identity theft complaints rose 47 percent in 2015 compared to the year before. For the past 15 years, complaints about identity theft remain among the top scams consumers report to the FTC.

In order to combat this worsening problem and provide relief to consumers, the FTC has set up a website to help victims of identity theft. It is the federal government’s one-stop resource to help victims report and recover from identity theft:

www.identitytheft.gov

If you know someone who is the victim of identity theft, we highly recommend that you refer them to the FTC’s website above.

We hope you are finding our consumer alerts useful. And, as always, if you know someone who is struggling with overdue debts, please have them call us for a bankruptcy consultation at 212-315-3755.
