Everyone has to see a new doctor occasionally for a number of reasons. It might be because your family doctor sends you to a specialist. Or, maybe your insurance changed to a new plan that doesn’t cover your current doctor anymore and you need to find a new one.

Before you make an appointment with a new doctor or specialist, it is a good idea to check their record with your state’s regulatory agency. Both New York and New Jersey have state government websites that can give you a doctor’s record of public misconduct.

New York State’s Department of Health has a website that posts public documents regarding any Professional Misconduct or Physician Discipline taken:

In New Jersey, the Attorney General has a website where you can check a physician’s disciplinary record. You can also find the number of medical malpractice lawsuits against a doctor on the same website:
